I’m a millennial, so not that old, but even I consider there to be a difference between “dating” (casually with no particular commitment to a single person) and “going steady” or “being boyfriend and girlfriend.”

Not that I ever actually did casually date multiple girls at the same time, mind you, but that’s just because I have no game, not because it was some kind of taboo.

I’m 40 and I’ve only ever been “dating” someone who was my b/gurlfriend. I’ve been on a date or two with prospective b/gurlfriends but I wouldn’t say I was “dating” them, if that makes sense? I’ve never seen more than one person at the same time as a prospective partner. Respect to people who can do that, but that was not for me!
