cross-posted from: https://lemmy.zip/post/68873773

Crossposting as it was suggested to me. My game uses OSM data, with as much as possible cut out then compressed. For example the map of Austria I offer is a one time 57 MB download. Bigger countries are subdivided.

Data is under 10 GB for world wide coverage, so I can host it for free on Cloudflare :)

It took quite a while, but it’s finally out. Fully free, no ads, no in-app purchases (besides a “Support the developer” option), no data collection and fully offline playable. All you need is your phone and GPS :)

I originally made the game to go on walks, unfortunately I sat even more in front of my PC to develop it. It is what it is. Hopefully it motivates some of you to get your steps in 💚

General idea of the game: Collect ingredients, brew them into potions and sell them to merchants. With the gold and reputation you get you can buy things and decorate your neighborhood. Other players see the same map and resources (so you can indirectly play together), but the game world fully belongs to you (singleplayer only).

General roadmap right now:

  • Adding achievements
  • Adding buildings you can improve over time (tavern to attract merchants and an ingredient tree you need to grow)
  • More minigames and improving the existing ones
  • And of course bugfixes, please let me know if you run into issues :)

For any questions and suggestions I’m always available!

cute little game! a few notes (I have a pixel 9):

    • the magnifying glass button only updates when I open and close a different menu
    • the water mini game is a bit annoying, I would recommend giving the ladle thing gravity to make it a tad less fiddly
    • I cannot for the life of me figure out what the tree button does. It might have been explained in the tutorial popup but I forgot if so, and can’t find a way to pull it back up to check

Very fun! I gave it a try while walking my dog, I’ll leave a positive review on play and a donation. I love supporting indie devs.

      Thank you!

The three buttons at the top are filters, magnify glass hides the arrow markers (25m, 50m, 75m, …), the tree hides resources (Ingredients, events, …) and the flag hides NPCs (It’s the faction flag). I’ll add it to the tutorial, it wasn’t there, so it’s my fault :) The idea of those filters were just: You have an NPC at home you don’t want to sell to / don’t have the ingredients for, but you want to look at your pretty decoration. Or you always walk the same route so you disable the edge markers (magnify glass), as they are just noise then.

Yes, the water minigame already got several redesigns. The previous version was less fiddly, but your finger was on the tip of the ladle and not the handle, so you covered the water filling and spilling. I’ll try your idea about adding a little bit of gravity to it.

If the one donation I got was from you, thank you! You did give me a jumpscare on waking up as Google sends an “Urgent issue” red notification, but in reality it’s just adding tax information for Ireland, the US and Taiwan (:

I’ll try to get it to iOS :)

But it might take a while, I also want to polish the game even further until then.

Excellent! I enjoyed pogo back in the day and have been playing with Walkscape recently. This seems right up my alley:)

    Sounds great!

Is it open source or do you plan to make it open source?

Is it accessible outside of the play store?

    Thanks!

No to both for now. But several people have asked about F Droid so far, so I’ll have to take a look. It would need a different build though, stripping out anything Google I guess.

Very generous of you to be willing to explore this, thank you! If you publish the sources, enabling to download the release apk on github for example is another possibility

Let me know if you publish it on either F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid (or both) and I’ll check it out. I don’t open links to Google’s services for obvious reasons :) But the game sounds fun.
