I’m an idiot. I read this thinking New Jersey and was confused when they called it an island. It took a bit before I realized it was talking about OLD Jersey.
If these were more common in this location in the past, I feel like this creature has something to do with Jersey Devil sightings.

Ah yes, the rare red-beaked, white-footed, Saskatchewan sandhill stork-goose-crane. Haven’t seen one of those since ought-six. Amazing wing girth.
