New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is taking a stand against Amazon’s exploitative subcontracting practices that put profits over people. Should big corporations like Amazon be held accountable for the safety and well-being of their delivery workers? Join the fight for dignity, stability, and a safe workplace for all workers.
What’s absolutely wild to me, is that some people are 100% ok with corporations abusing loopholes with shit like these “ebikes”, they see exploiting loopholes as normal business and consider a corporation smart for doing it…
But when governments do the rational thing and move to close the loophole, suddenly that is a problem.
Like, not closing loopholes is why shit is so fucked up, because they never stop looking for more loopholes. If we never close them, they just keep accumulating.
Sometimes that means laws get more complicated, sometimes that means we throw out a bunch of exceptions and simplify the law.
“Human powered vehicle” is pretty fucking clear cut line, and one that should be obvious to designate who can use a “bike lane” or not.
If an ebike can go 35, so can most 2 stroke scooters/mopefs, and theyve always driven with cars and not bicycles. So don’t let electric vehicles go where we already decided gas vehicles can’t go.
It was never about the source of the motors power, that’s been a loophole this whole time.
The definition of an e-bike limits it to, at most, 28MPH. If they have a throttle they are limited to 20MPH. Faster than that generally requires registration as a motor vehicle. If an e-bike is doing 35 then it has been modified and is operating outside legal limits. That’s not a “loophole”, it’s a crime. Quit spreading misinformation.
