I would have expected most of them to be in Portland.
“However, of the 2,630 direct data center employees, 2,205 of them are in Eastern Oregon and, in Morrow County, the hyperscale data centers directly employ more than 10% of the local workforce.”I do datacenter work. I’ve only worked or applied for work in the Portland area.
I would’ve guessed Hillsboro since they have a few big ones, but I guess the hyperscale ones are just that much bigger. I know at least Google and Meta have a big Oregon presence.
Yup. That’s where the datacenters are. Downtown too tho. They’ve converted some of those old buildings to datacenters. Pittock. Tata.
Shut them all down.
I mean I pay a few bucks a month for compute resources I use for self-hosting, to a relative mom & pop provider who leases space in a small data center in-state that’s been around for many years. They’re not all the same.
*burn
Go burn someone else’s workplace.
And while you are at it, try getting your message across by holding a sign on a streetcorner, because that’s how its gonna work if you burn the datacenters. That’s fair. Which one do you work at, so I can make sure to avoid it?
If we do that, how are you gonna dick around on the internet?
Where do you think this website is hosted? Is it magic somehow because its not reddit?
Sorry to tell ya bud, lemmy.today may be hosted in Oregon, but it does not run on fairy dust.
Residential power rates have gone up 60% since 2020. Meanwhile the state actually had net migration for a few of those years during the Portland COVID trough.
I wonder what could be driving this sudden rate explosion when residential use won’t have changed much? /s
