      They’re pretty fucked. Groundwater has been severely depleted which is causing massive amounts of sinking which is wrecking all their infrastructure too. That shit takes hundreds of years to fully recover.

      That combined with the Taliban building dams on the rivers feeding the east means they’re in for a world of hurt in the near future unless they get their act together.

          Outside if that they could do a couple of things.

          The major issue is their system of agriculture is like really inefficient in terms of water use.

          They could spend the time and treasure to improve their irrigation systems or cut down agricultural use of water and just import more food. Buuuut given their priorities being focused on funding their proxy war against regional enemies, making shaheds for Russia, and rebuilding their nuclear program, that isn’t likely to happen any time soon.

          They could probably negotiate with the Taliban to allow more flow into Iran but who knows what they’ll have to give up for that since they didn’t have a lot of leverage at the moment.
