This Bluesky post sums it up:

    We got all the hits:

    • purchased by private equity firm
    • hid a bunch of layoffs
    • invested a bunch of money in AI
    • tried to make that money back by ruining the best product it now owned

It would be hilarious to see these companies going balls deep into AI only to suffer massive losses and try to push those losses onto others

    if it weren’t so sad.

They always do. Get bailed out by the government using taxpayers money. If it was truly capitalism they would be left to rot by the side of the road.

When nVidias bet on AI collapses eventually, it will be catastrophic cascade of events, worse than the Great Depression.

I think the nVidia bubble is pretty inconsequential since they don’t actually produce anything which people rely on to live a normal life.

If we do degrade that far it will be because of Republicans reigniting WWII fascism.

It’ll be as cathartic as it’ll be catastrophic. I’m personally looking forward to the devastation this folly will bring, if only to see PC parts makers come back to the consumer market with hat in hand.

Except there won’t be much of a consumer market to come back to, due to the aforementioned economic devastation.

And they want us all in the cloud so they can control and see it all. Can’t do that if you can keep your data on the pc in your basement.

It’s sad that there’s not many Japanese font provider, sure there are free font, but outside a few one, it’s not really well supported with updates and bug fixes.

Event Google’s Japanese Noto font requires contant update and bug fixing.

Whenever they add new symbols to Unicode, for a start.

Probably other reasons too, on occasion. For non-Latin languages with thousands of characters, I’d imagine certain unusual combinations occasionally get discovered that need rendering tweaks? Things like that.

There are other Japanese ran and designed font foundries. The US ones have had crazy pricing for a while so I’ve been using maniackers for decades now.
