Hello.
my manjaro has been running the same install for 6 years on ext4 no separate home partition…
what are yall doing to brick your machines?
um the original meme says “linux is the stupidest thing ever” on the pendulum.
sorry youre in a bad mood. and sorry i contributed to it.
oh yeah, i don’t plan on folding. i drank heavily for like 20 years, and decided i’d had enough. saw it coming and new it would be tough. ive picked up reading, and im gaming more. also knocking out more computer projects.
also i work in a social environment (a bar lol) so im not feeling isolated or anything. the bar has been great about stocking NA beers for me, and i found “fake shots” that i like quite a bit called pathfinder. they are also very supportive so i would feel like a failure if i folded and drank around them. i honestly havent even been enjoying smoking weed as much. i kinda like just being sober.
so the transition has been very smooth so far. but i just have so much more time in my day between not staying at the bar all night, and not being hungover most mornings.
i appreciate your kind words. i was mostly just venting. also being bored and uncomfortable is probably just part of the process of adjusting to my new life, and being less dependant on dopamine and alcohol.
ah yeah that’s fair. but also i kinda agree with that person’s response. getting frustrated with linux doesnt mean linux sucks, it means you are learning. ive been using linux for over 20 years, and i still find plenty of things that take me out of my element. and that’s a good thing.
without looking it up:
chown -R
cp -r
ls -r
rsync. (idk, i always google this one)
scp -r
zip -r
but why not look it up? you either use a tool and arguments often enough to memorize it, or you don’t.
3 months sober. im so bored.

is speech (or speach i guess) ever a verb? its a noun describing the talking. you don’t speech, you speak.
“slow speech” “give a speech” “her speech” “speech writer” “speech class”
vs
“speak with an accent” “speaking of the mandella effect” “i love to listen to you speak”
i feel like youre getting ”speech” and ”speak" confused here…
i worked a bunch of places where the door just says that and has no alarm
the point of gentoo is spending all your time watching packages compile.
not talking shit, i love it.
!newcommunities@discuss.online
give those a scroll and see if anything works for you.
also search for topics you enjoy, or things you would expect to find as a subreddit. i usually sub to the top couple matches by population. this can backfire when i see the same post multiple times in (for example) 4 different linux coms. not everything wil have a com, but thats ok. make one if you feel strongly enough about it.
when i first joined a few years ago there was a tool that would try to find matches for your subreddits. i cant remember what it was called or if it still exists, but give it a look
a combo between the two is to find the list of your subs on reddit, then search them all one by one in lemmy. it takes time, but it will set you up reasonably well
pay attentiin when things are crossposted, maybe you would like one of those communities too
that and just stick with it. youll find your place.
edit: my links at the top broke
i dont think so… you need waydroid to run android apps. i think its proper linux…
i really hope fairphone themselves picks it up. it would be incredible if fp7 (or 8, give them time) could be 100% (or close) compatible with linux out of the box. even if it required closed source blobs for like the radios or whatever. they can still ship with the option of regular android to not scare off the normies
i put postmarket on my fp5 and it runs pretty damn well. with a little more polish it absolutly could be my daily driver. it is very close.
i know its a lot to hope for, but i think faiphone is in a unique position to do this if they ever decided to.
i use arch but look more like the suse one

hey at least we actually think and don’t offload it to a machine.

i havent seen any of the discussions leading to this, but i assume the sheer amount of images/video takes up a lot of space, so they instances decided to avoid it altogether.
that and potential risks if something particularly unsavory becomes mirrored on your instance.
calling him the antichrist is giving him too much credit. he’s just a vile human being.

thats totally fair. im just noting what ive seen. feels like we’re hitting a tipping point tho. i dont expect a majority any time soon, but i think we could be pushing 20/30℅ before too long
ive been using linux since the 90s, and its finally at the point where the only thing holding it back is specific proprietary software that people think they need, or maybe properly need. i struggled like hell trying to run software i needed in college around 2007 for my math classes.
if we get enough of a market share, there will be more motivation to port to linux. not that that means itll happen
manjaro is rolling release. ive had the same install on my desktop for 6 years.
eh, i think arch is the more usable of the “diving deeper” distros. arch, gentoo, and lfs(if you can call that a distro) are good for trying to understand the deeper parts of the system.
i use cachy btw
