Civilians aren’t covered by the Geneva convention, otherwise it would be a war crime for cops to use chemical weapons.
But I’m sad to hear you feel we’ve lost the moral high ground against states that have violated the Geneva convention through use of chemical weapons such as white phosphorus, torture and rape of prisoners, bombing civilians without declaring war, declaring war without due cause, using human shields, selectively targeting journalists and official medical personnel, and committing attempted genocide.
Fun fact: did you know that the US has a standing order that if a US military member is tried for war crimes in the Hague, the US military has to invade its supposed ally, the Netherlands, to prevent justice from being served?
