What was the circle at the handle for? To put a rope or hook through it for storage or carrying?
Yep! To my understanding, to hook on a belt is the most common interpretation.
Some areas, like China, used ‘knife money’ of a similar shape that was for trade, and strung through loops for easy transport.
Interesting! My brain also immediately thought of putting a finger through it and swinging it around in circles. Certainly fun until it slips off the finger into someone.
And Interesting form of money, humans really get creative with money.
