Sometimes I will run into threads like this of tankies disparaging the small socialist movements we do have here in the US. They will also pretend that they don’t do such a thing.

You don’t have to be a “tankie” to criticize Mamdani and his half arsed agenda that he constantly abandons. Such as keeping the far right police chief, tempering his criticism of israel, supporting hakim jeffries against a proposed primary, reinstating homeless encampment sweeps and on and on. Hell he doesn’t support workers control of the means of production hardly a socialist in any real sense.
Its a fair take, but it really says more about how much work we have to do. Tankies are basically saying that the task is so huge we should not even try in their critiques of Mamdami and voting to grow the number of progressive politicians we could have.
Note that this does not mean we stop other forms of organizing.
I don’t want or care about “progressive politicians and rulers” we should have no politicians or rulers at all.
I am empathetic to that as an end goal, but that is even farther off. You should still help us promote leftist policy were possible.
You’re blaming the wrong person. The blame isn’t on Mamdani for doing what he’s doing—or rather not doing everything he should be—the blame is on the system for impending his progress.
Now there’s an argument to be made against him participating in that system at all instead of trying to usurp it totally.
Expect he’s not doing many things he could easily do, he doesn’t need to keep Tisch as police commissioner he could easily get rid of her, he didn’t have to come out against a Primary against Hakim Jeffries, He didn’t have to concede to bans at protest at “places of worship” and on and on.
