I have heard it used as a racial slurs once I the film True Romance (1993). It has a scene where Dennis Hopper’s character is explaining to Christopher Walken’s character (a Sicilian) how he’s “part eggplant” due to the fact that the Moors conquered Sicily in the past.
I’d link to the scene on YouTube but I don’t want to as it’s very racist.
I’m coming from a US centric place, but I’m pretty sure the N word is generally used to mean a very specific word which is notably not the Spanish word for black. Do people call the Spanish word the N word too in other countries?
As an italian I’ve never heard that. People just say the N word (which is literally the word “black” in spanish).

You say zucchini to eggplant, isn’t zucchini another vegetable (green).
