Maybe I’ve just had amazing luck, but my cats have always been fine with me clipping their nails. It’s not their favorite activity, but upfront payment with treats and treats afterwards has meant they always tolerated it. Then you can have the most aggressive kneading possible without scratches!

Clipping claws is just like when you clip your nails, declawing would be the equivalent of cutting your first knuckles.

Absolutely, using nail clippers is just like clipping your own nails: they grow back and there’s still some nail left, since you can’t cut past the quick (internal blood supply in the nail). They can still scratch and climb if they want to, but kneading and play fighting isn’t painful for the person if you clip their nails.

As a general rule it’s not a bad idea to have styptic powder on hand to stop bleeding from any clips that accidentally cut too deep, but I’ve never had it happen in ~10 years of nail clipping.
