Idk if it’s still true, but ads was the fastest growing division in Apple for several years. They make tens of billions (possibly hundreds of billions) in ad revenue every year.

Tangential, but I discovered several years ago that even without overt ads in Google Maps, there was still something wrong. Search for “restaurants” and you get the same blend of corpo establishments no matter where you travel. Type in something specific like “arepas”, “korean bbq”, or “turkish food” and all of a sudden you get a list of options that is more diverse and still within the same zone as the generic search.
I don’t know why the ethnic options always get hidden by default and I hate it.

Apple was always and is still is THE worst IT company. Only idiots are paying for their overpriced products. FULL DISCLAIMER: For decade I had iMac, MacBook, iPhone, AirPort Extreme, iPod’s. And then I refused to pay that son of a bich. Since then I am little more free and have a few euros more.
Remember when we bought something and actually owned it? Halcyon days.
