    Okay, maybe I meant "people believe this is the one and only life and they are afraid, as opposed to religious people who are less likely

      This reminds me of an interesting take I have seen somewhere, which was basically a mixture of philosophies of Marx and Nietzsche:

      Religious people are more inclined to accept bad circumstances as they have the afterlife to hope for, while atheists don’t have this, thus try to create paradise on earth.
