What worries me about this, and other update systems is, as an advanced user, I should be at the front of the line to get updates, not because I deserve them more than you do (speaking to someone who is not an advanced user, not someone who is browsing a technology community on Lemmy) but because I’m gonna report the bugs and hopefully you get a more stable update.

A lot of apps (VLC being a popular one) have a button in the settings that says “I am an advanced user” which gives you access to settings that can worsen the app experience in some cases. I think operating systems should have this. Take the kid gloves off and treat me like the expert user I claim to be. With Windows, this is kind of gated behind a purchase. That kind of user should buy Windows Pro, but most of those users realise Windows Home is good enough. Even so, buying Pro doesn’t mean you get the updates first (or can defer them longer if that is your goal).
