The sequel to legendary game creation sandbox Garry’s Mod launches in April, and Facepunch have struck a deal with Valve to let you publish creations on Steam.

        It runs does not mean it supports it. So we need to see how this turns out in the future. The compatibility could break with future requirements and changes. I’m just worried because Garry is not a very Linux friendly.

          @thingsiplay @Midnitte
          Facepunch cant even decide if it’s going to be fully supported on linux. I got several conflicting answers.

          The community and staff are an unmoderated toxic pile of **** anyway. I think it’s going to flop for that reason alone.

          Very disappointing.

            Disappointing to read that. But I think its a little bit too early to make a definitive mind yet. At least this is Open Source, so people want to make it work on Linux. Sadly even without Linux support I do not think it would flop (I know you wish to lol). It would be sad if Garry’s Mod does not work on Steam Machine.

              @thingsiplay I don’t want #sbox to fail, I’ve been looking forward to it and #Source2 for a very long time.

              …But not at the larger cost of spawning an unmoderated platform where hate and abuse can fester.

              #garrynewman seems to be of the mind that he can do no wrong, when in fact he is taking the company in a new direction. With that comes new responsibility which he and his staff refuse to manage or plan for, despite many users giving the same feedback: “We need moderation”

                I don’t think sbox should fail if it does not support Linux. But if it ends up locking games and the developers behind Windows, then I don’t want it to become popular.

                  @thingsiplay At the moment you are forced to run the game through proton/wine on Linux.

                  I was told by a staff (rudely) the tools would be forever windows only.
                  (but again got conflicting answers)

                  I was not able to set up a cohesive dev environment with the tools under proton/wine.

                    I wouldn’t mind if it works perfectly fine through Proton to be honest. But anything that requires and locks to Windows only is bad for gamers, developers and the future of human race.
