he’s not a moron, he’s just stubborn. he fully acknowledges the need, he just refuses to actually install unlock origin.
He gave very little guidance to me regarding what to download. I basically filled up both the TV and Film libraries with what I like with allowances for some general stuff to cover the bases, and some requests from both him, his husband, and the 6 or so other users he has added to his server. Loooots of Sci-Fi and LGBTQ-centric programming. all the Marvel and DC stuff. lots of the blockbuster stuff going back to the 80s and definitely covering the bases with cinema classics from the US and Europe. lots of TV classics and modern must-haves. Everything Star Trek and Star Wars shows and films, as well as everything Doctor Who, and I do mean everything.
and I’m adding new stuff constantly. and that’s just TV and Film. I also have Docu-Series, Documentaries, Anime Shows, Anime Films, and Comedy Specials libraries, although none of them have more than 50 items. I’m currently working on building up Documentaries and Docu-Series.
my own server is about 13 years old, and only about 6.5 TB capacity. it’s an old iMac running Mac OS 10.13.6, and I can’t believe it’s still working, but it’s a beast, and it’s stable as fuck. but one of these days, it’s either just gonna die suddenly, or Plex will finally drop support.
Docker dropped support years ago, and I can only run 20.10.8, which is ancient. fortunately, all of the containers I run are current on this docker build, but I can’t run them via compose-- I have to run them via cli run commands, which I have set up via an elaborate set of bash scripts.
I run both servers headlessly via my web browser through Portainer and webUIs.
my buddy’s server is only about a year old. it’s a top-of-the-line System76 Meerkat with an external 4-bay HDD enclosure with 40TB of Seagate drives inside. Only taking up 3 bays, and he’s looking to upgrade soon. I have’t upgraded it to the latest Pop!OS 24.04 yet because I remote in using RustDesk, and it doesn’t play nice with Wayland yet. Ugh, still…
I run my buddy’s server with the same love and care as if it’s my own server. it’s the second one of his I’ve administered-- his previous server was relatively similar in spec to my own, but with approximately 14TB capacity (upgraded from 4TB over about 4 years). The difference is that he had the resources to finally upgrade his server, and I have, thus far, not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

he’s not a moron, he’s just stubborn. he fully acknowledges the need, he just refuses to actually install unlock origin.
He gave very little guidance to me regarding what to download. I basically filled up both the TV and Film libraries with what I like with allowances for some general stuff to cover the bases, and some requests from both him, his husband, and the 6 or so other users he has added to his server. Loooots of Sci-Fi and LGBTQ-centric programming. all the Marvel and DC stuff. lots of the blockbuster stuff going back to the 80s and definitely covering the bases with cinema classics from the US and Europe. lots of TV classics and modern must-haves. Everything Star Trek and Star Wars shows and films, as well as everything Doctor Who, and I do mean everything.
and I’m adding new stuff constantly. and that’s just TV and Film. I also have Docu-Series, Documentaries, Anime Shows, Anime Films, and Comedy Specials libraries, although none of them have more than 50 items. I’m currently working on building up Documentaries and Docu-Series.

my own server is about 13 years old, and only about 6.5 TB capacity. it’s an old iMac running Mac OS 10.13.6, and I can’t believe it’s still working, but it’s a beast, and it’s stable as fuck. but one of these days, it’s either just gonna die suddenly, or Plex will finally drop support.
Docker dropped support years ago, and I can only run 20.10.8, which is ancient. fortunately, all of the containers I run are current on this docker build, but I can’t run them via compose-- I have to run them via cli run commands, which I have set up via an elaborate set of bash scripts.
I run both servers headlessly via my web browser through Portainer and webUIs.
my buddy’s server is only about a year old. it’s a top-of-the-line System76 Meerkat with an external 4-bay HDD enclosure with 40TB of Seagate drives inside. Only taking up 3 bays, and he’s looking to upgrade soon. I have’t upgraded it to the latest Pop!OS 24.04 yet because I remote in using RustDesk, and it doesn’t play nice with Wayland yet. Ugh, still…
I run my buddy’s server with the same love and care as if it’s my own server. it’s the second one of his I’ve administered-- his previous server was relatively similar in spec to my own, but with approximately 14TB capacity (upgraded from 4TB over about 4 years). The difference is that he had the resources to finally upgrade his server, and I have, thus far, not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
