I am so done with CEOs trying to pass themselves off as some sort of quirky, trendsetting visionaires, when they are mostly just insecure nerds.
I have met a bunch. I would say only 5-10% are actually self reflecting, the rest are highly insecure, chasing whatever they seem to be missing in their life…a hole that can’t be filled.
The most humble one I know sold his sellf built company after 30+ years, because he said he realized he was coming to work and seemed he was adding no value to the system.
On the other end of spectrum they take every comment as a personal insult even though its not directed at/to them.
One place I worked the guy has built his empire from his garage up. But had this drive to one up every competitor. Like competitor buys a Porsche, he has to buy something better, etc.
I had been power lifting for 5 years and at one meeting I had my arms folded and I noticed the CEO staring at my chest and forearms. A week later he’s got a personal trainer at the office and taking what I assume were steroid type supplements because he was getting huge fast. LOL.
That is truly pathetic
