They have to cut their workforce. The whole reason for the AI build out is to make information workers obsolete. If they kept their work force and spent billions in CapEx the market would realize AI is bullshit and their stock would tank.

They have to show gains to keep the AI grift going.

Good good. Keep emptying your workforce until there’s nothing left but AI slop that crumbles under its own weight.

Overspending on garbage and massive layoffs got us into this mess. And by gumption, they’re gonna get us out of it!

So, Windows is going to continue getting worse. I mean, that’s what I expected but at least now they’re openly admitting it.

I’m starting to think Apple has been right in dragging their feet in regard to AI.

Such a novel concept, having things meet your quality standards before cramming them into every corner of every device, app, and OS you produce.

I think it’s much more likely that they tried really hard to do AI stuff but their corporate culture wasn’t compatible with “ship slop, it’s fine” and ended up falling behind because their stuff was only just as good as the other guys.

For what it’s worth, they did fire/“retire” their AI guy and they’ll be using Gemini models now.

Countries need to get balls to hold these companies to account and protect their workers. Even in Japan, layoffs can trigger all sorts of consequences for the company and our rights here are very hit or miss.
