Making the claim that homophobes are all secretly gay downplays the harm they cause. It turns reframes it into “in-fighting” instead of a minority being oppressed/attacked.

Some politicians will be self-hating queer people who are weaponizing hate, but others will just be hateful straight people.

It doesn’t. It shifts the conversation from people to ideas. If those politicians are actually in the closet, then it’s not about straight vs queer but about hateful vs accepting. Which is a much more realistic framework that also encompasses conservative hate for women, racial minorities, immigrants, other religions, and counterculture elements, all in one neat package. It stops looking like sexeral different battles and starts looking like what it is: a single organized campaign against humanity by people infected with hateful ideas.

i dont see how it causes more harm, or infighting against gay people. it exposes thier hyprocisy of gay politicians. if you were gay you would know which people are the ones actually harming. there are plenty of evidence that homophobic people are gay themselves.

Bizarre its only ever straight people that are obssesed with not claiming homophobics are gay, they are the ones doing the most harm through denial that Homphobic people are remotely not gay. plus they are the ones that are often “offended for pocs and LGBTQ+”

Gay man here, yet to see any real evidence that being homophobic means you’re gay. Anecdotal accounts will be found, but that’s not compelling.
