This is a ridiculous title. remove misk from the story for a minute. are we saying that tje only people who can build something are those who built it before? Nokia who made rubber boots dodnt know anything about mobile phones bitbi think they did a orettybgood job going from boots to phones. But because musk is a douche, all of a sudden it is a “harebrain scheme”. musk isnt building the thing. he has a history of paying a lot of money to people who know what they are doing. spacex is great example.pf that. its hard not to admire the great engineers who work there. its a company that will thrive even if musk disappeared.

honest question, isnt the register a news site?

i don’t like musk at all but what kind of news article spends just as much time on the dislike of the man than the event its reporting on.

obviously my point is moot if another commenter tells me that the register was bought about by so-and-so and is no longer a news site.

This is a fair take, but an arguement can be made that modern semiconductor manufacturing is so complex that there is some truth to the framing of the article.

That being said, I strongly disagree with the notion that there is anything to admire about SpaceX employees.

From my perspective, these people are employees of a cruel, murderous American oligarch. Just because they overcame very notable engineering challenges, one should simply dismiss that?

I would have no issue if they got to experience the same thing their oligarch leader did to others (with the same level of public callousness with respect to their well being).

Someone like Andrei Sakharov is worthy of admiration (if we are focused on the engineering domain).

SpaceX engineers (or really any American-style careerists) are just self-interested regime apparatchiks; albeit ones with great skills.
