But the influence of the US is deep. E.g. looking for DRAM from Singapore:

U.S. memory chip maker Micron Technology is set to announce new memory chip manufacturing capacity investment in Singapore,

Taiwan is obviously stuck with the US because of China.

Japan is in an economic state that makes only sense if the US are dictating it.

Korea is in a similar position as Taiwan.

Economically it would make sense to keep trading with the EU, but the dependencies run deeper.

You are thinking about military protection against China, But Japan has joined the EU SAFE program, because they realize USA is an unreliable partner on defense now.
USA has removed defense systems from Taiwan, Korea and held back new ones to Japan to use them in the gulf instead. Yes Taiwan is dependent, but the other 2 are not under imminent threat, and are looking for alternatives to USA.

Ruining your economy now, to maybe get help in need later, is no longer a good option, against working with EU and China that are way more reliable.

EU SAFE is a loan program, bound on origin of goods. Japan will likely pay to make Japanese components count as EU sourced. What else could it mean for them to join?

but the other 2 are not under imminent threat, and are looking for alternatives to USA.

The EU can’t project forces there. There is no alternative to the US.

Besides, does Japan have another producer besides Micron?

TOKYO – Japan said Friday it will provide 536 billion yen ($3.63 billion) to U.S. chipmaker Micron Technology for research and development and

EU SAFE is a loan program,

No it’s a financing and procurement AND development program.

Also both the will and the ability of USA is questioned now. They may have the biggest military, but it doesn’t matter if they lack their overpriced equipment, and the equipment is outdated, and they aren’t going to stand by their agreements anyway.

I don’t think you really understand how irrelevant USA is becoming.

Lot’s of companies expand their RAM production and research currently, because there is a shortage due to AI, and profits are through the roof. That Micron is also doing it shows nothing.

No it’s a financing and procurement AND development program.

Security Action for Europe (SAFE) is a new EU financial instrument to be financed by EU borrowing.

They are. But there is not much the EU can do for Japan.

Maybe. I think the US has embraced the information age and has decided to be unpredictable.

BeeRose about the Trump visit. Trump is as stupid as Bush was Texan.

That Micron is also doing it shows nothing.

Micron is a US company. Even if Japan wants to support the EU, it’s up to Micron to decide on their trading partners.

The US looks silly, but their grip is tight.

They wouldn’t let Trump trample over all relations if they weren’t in control.
