          The point is that if you live in a rich, western or eastern country means that ebola has less effect on you. You also probably hear about it less, and if you somehow were to get it, that 30-50% mortality rate drops dramatically.

          However, living in western democracies also means you have click bait media. Remember the hantavirus ship? Every expert said there was basically no chance of it becoming a pandemic, yet the media kept pushing to try to scare people. Then this ebola thing kicks up and hantavirus becomes a nothingburger again.

          So the bottom line is about the scare. If you live in central Africa, you’re probably rationally scared and are aware of every previous outbreak. If you live in the west, you’re more likely to be irrationally scared thanks to our sensationalist media. If you live in South America or asia, you’re more likely going to be aware of it, but less stressed out because you have more rational, local news. Therefore the fear and awareness of ebola depends on where you live.
