Kyle Eastwood has composed some of his father’s film music, including three of the Million Dollar Baby and Gran Torino music, this time in partnership with Michael Stevens. It was this last film, released in 2008, that was screened to open the evening. The opportunity for Kyle Eastwood to work with this living legend that is his father.

“I have a lot of good memories of working with him. Now he’s retired, he’s 95. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of movies”, observes Kyle Eastwood. “It was a great experience for me*.”

I found most of the 50’s-60’s ‘classic’ Westerns on the dated, formulaic and repetitive side, so my eternal thanks goes to Eastwood for being a part of so many fascinating Westerns that broke the mold in so many ways. More than just the “Dollar” trilogy, he must have done half a dozen more with various directors, altho of course he could do other genres as well.

Here’s a scene I liked, from “Josey Wales.” It’s kind of low-key I guess, but there’s a lot of gravity there and understated tension / danger:
