Actually this one’s believable. The script typically follows:
“Do you want to go golfing this weekend”
“Are you coming to the bbq Saturday”
“Hey this is so-and-so”
Etc.
And if you reply “who is this” or whatever to that effect the bot will say “Oh I’m sorry” or something like that. Then later follow up with a “my names _____” usually followed by a picture of an Asian woman, and then an attempt to “get to know” who the bot is talking to.
The whole mistaken identity bs to establish a dialog and try to form a connection with a random stranger to scam them.
Mine was named Alice. She insisted I need to use her sketchy crypto trading platform and she would be my sponsor. I insisted that the site needed her to deposit BTC to a specific wallet before it would let me. I think I eventually got blocked.
