10% delusional.
40 in some places.
People saying this isn’t a bad thing. Fuck that shit. Your fucking kids deserve to have their own life/own space. Saying “it’s not so bad” is such a fucking “I love being cucked by the fucking billionaires” take.
JFC people. People shouldn’t have to live in multi-generational homes. Stop trying to find the silver lining, bout time we start finding the fucking guillotines
The people saying living in a multi-generational home isn’t so bad are also the most likely to complain that the country is turning into a third world country (where multi-generational homes are common) because of immigration.
Not really, no. Housing isn’t a commodity, and independent housing shouldn’t be treated as a necessity for most people. Both of these can be true. Multi-generational family homes or compounds genuinely do benefit both the individual and the family greatly, allowing actual social mobility even in capitalist hellscapes. When your rent is 1/10th of your income because you’re splitting it with a half dozen other income earners, you have enough money to save, or to spend, or to do anything you want with it, including expanding your compound so you have more privacy as your own personal life grows.
No one should have to live in an independent home, but it’s also not something that is needed or should be encouraged for the vast majority of people. Collectivism is the only reason you or any of us are alive. It is the only reason society exists. Individualism is inherently anti-human, and a poison to everything built by humans.
I’m not saying multigenerational housing is a bad thing, I’m just saying it shouldn’t* be the only option for a lot of people who would prefer to have their own space. I’m in a multi-generational household myself and it has its benefits and faults.
You shouldn’t be forced to live that way because it’s you’re only option though
Sure but setting it back to the default, and advocating it needs to go back to being the default, shouldn’t be seen as conservative or racist or whatever group you were trying to associate with it.
If it were the default then affordable apartments would exist again out of necessity, as there would simply be so much less demand the price would have to trend towards the actual cost.
and also promote a society of individualism to create as much conflict as possible in pursuit of profit.
“Well, the rent is rather high. Perhaps I could look into getting a roommat-”
“ROOMMATES WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE!”
“Okay, I guess it’s back to the basement to goon on Discord, then.”
“Sir, we’ve increased the rent again, as you’ve ordered.”
“Excellent. Now saturate the media broadcast telling them to start having lots of children.”
To be fair people have lived in multi-generational households for most of history and still do in a lot of the world. Wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world to be a little bit more connected.
While yes I get it, a lot of times in those communities moving out is still an option. People just don’t take it as often because it allows you to save easier. The problem now is it’s either “live at home, or move out and starve”, that’s not a pros and cons situation, that’s being held hostage by “investors”
from all the people who grew up in dysfunctional families. NO, it’s a really bad idea. Blood relation is worth jack shit.
Agree. I will die on the street instead of live with family.
Sounds great unless you don’t really agree with them, and then you’re forced to stay with people that you are constantly arguing with, often without much of the outlet of other places to go that a lot of places that have had multi generational households have had.
Honestly, I believe in the three place theory. You need 3 places, one a home where you spend time with your family, one work where you earn money to support your life, and a third place to relax and relieve stress.
My partner and I moved in with my mother in law recently, after living on our own for 15 years, and it’s going good. The low cost of living with family means I can work at an animal shelter doing something I actually enjoy and not have to worry about not making enough money. If your family aren’t shitheads it’s not a terrible option.
if you have good relationship with your family its fine, but its things like arguing, and an expectation for you to give something to themgreater than what you paid in rent is when it gets dicey.
