German prosecutors believe the Ukrainian national suspected of sabotaging Baltic Sea gas pipelines in 2022 acted "on the orders of state authorities in Ukraine."
This attack happened in international waters iirc. If Iran had attacked e.g. internet cables on the ocean floor connecting the US to Europe or Japan or wherever, that’d definitely be a valid target.
Russia directly finances its war against Ukraine with the proceeds from that pipeline. Of course it’s a valid target. A problem for Germany, sure, but that’s a lesson in not becoming dependent on states like Russia.
