    Doesn’t a lute have a sharply bent back head, and usually way more than four strings. I thought it was essentially just an oud. akksshully

      As you can see, this instrument’s strings bifrucate. It has four tuning pegs, and four strings down the frets, but eight playable strings near the bottom. Head looks fine here. You might be thinking of the lute lute, a specific style of lute with said angled head that became popular in modern europe.
