Mh I thought they are locking down all options of viewing NSFW content without login when they turn off logged off access to old.reddit.com. Might have to read the article again, maybe just misinterpreted it.
I think for instances in certain areas (uk) nsfw content is blocked.
Old reddit still lets you view content while logged out.
