And… Why would they do that?

China doesn’t exert itself without some expected gain, but right now they benefit from the US and Russia expending resources on this conflict. What would they get by ending it?

Improved trade with both sides, and the de-acceleration of military technologies from both sides.

That would be the long term ploy. Right now China is taking short term gains whilst empowering the war frame of both sides.

They’d do better to not encourage either to get into drone and chip manufacturing but are encouraging both. Revolutionizing the technology of your competitors is not the smartest way forward. Especially not if you want Taiwan.

China lives the lie of claiming they’re a middle kingdom and stabilizing power as poorly as America did.

When America did so, they regularly bombed the middle east, and dethroned many latin American counties, as well as others across the globe.

China will likely do similar perhaps to a different degree and selection of countries. So there in lays the peril, as well as the question of how countries get chosen for these dishonors, and why.

Difficulty vs rewards is a lot of it. China, frankly, already has concepts of lebensraum in it’s culture, manufacturing all sorts of false historical claims to expanding Chinese territory.
