Podcasts are a blight on humanity. I’m sure a couple are OK. But I’ve never found any to be worthwhile. Granted I don’t delve through the cesspool to find any though. I don’t relish listening to people talk ad nauseum about inane shit.
It’s the (what you consider to be) “inane shit” part that’s the problem here, not the medium. I personally enjoy history podcasts, but more generally there’s no shortage of non-inane podcasts out there.
I used blanket statements and some flippant hyperbole because I don’t like any podcasts I’ve tried, but I’m aware the medium itself isn’t the exact issue. It just lends itself to people filling the silence with banal chatter when there is nothing else to say.
Right? I woke up the other night and the gnomes were playing Rogan and The Daily into my ears at the same time. The exterminator says it’ll be $10k to get rid of them permanently, and I just don’t have that.
Not only that, podcasts range a lot of different formats. Some are people talking to each other. Some are one person talking about a specific topic. Some are stories like books or movies but are radio dramas etc. I understand maybe not wanting to listen to anything you’ve found, but it’s a bit like saying you don’t want to read because it’s always about the news. Lots of stuff to listen to/read.
That’s all true. But I’m still firmly of the belief that the correct form of Podcast is some combination of British trans woman, Brooklyn journalism washout, and Philadelphia engineer talking about classic movies, election news, and engineering disasters.
I like the radio dramas a lot. It’s different from a book on tape because it’s made for the format. I drive quite a distance for work and it’s a nice unwind.
One of the hosts from the knowledge fight podcast was called as an expert witness in the defamation case against alex jones where he lost the billion and the guy only knew so much about him because he started a podcast to research alex
Cinema podcasts, like a movie for your ears that you can’t see, are always fun. I like closing my eyes and letting my earnodes fill in what my eyes can’t see.

They’re just radio shows you don’t need a broadcast station to distribute.
Some are definitely better than others
Shrug
Nobody is forcing you to
Look at this fat cat capitalist who can afford a home that doesn’t have Podcast Gnomes in the walls.
they’re called roommates

And I never said otherwise.

That actually sounds interesting. Didn’t even know those existed.
A couple recommendations I have for this are
Ars Paradoxica - time travel without all the cliche
We’re Alive - Zombie apocalypse focused on survival
The Left Right Game - A horror born from an urban rumor/legend/conspiracy
All mentioned are completed series so you can binge them all you like
Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll give those a try. 🙂
