Not sure if there’s truth to it or not, but apparently TF knew there was a problem a while before anything was brought up by the public. TF is a Dump supporter, so probably gave a big donation to stave off any lawsuits.
Now THAT’S what I call a shitpost!
US now literally a shit country lol, no denying anymore
I’m glad lemmy hasn’t lost it with weight loss just like reddit
You can make your own at home too! Keep some brackish water in your sink for a week and cultivate your own precious colony of gut cleansing bacteria!
Does it include explosive diarrhea? If not, then I’m not interested.
I can feel the shit exploding from this post.
think about how many industries and personalities are propped up because america conceals the simple reality of losing weight: a calorie deficit. like, so much wealth depends on people not being able to comprehend obvious text on the back of a package.
The reality is the majority of all healthy food in the US is gated behind high prices, forcing the average/low income consumer into eat foods high in large amounts of globally banned dyes and syrups, which results in massive weight gain unless you buy into the weight loss meds, unless you want to do something crazy like eat beans and rice for every meal.
this + all the hostile city planning preventing you from walking anywhere means that it’s both very easy to gain weight and very hard to lose it once you have it
Anyway, this is a harder problem to solve than dumb gotchas like “why don’t americans just exercise more, why don’t americans just calorie watch”
The reality is the majority of all healthy food in the US is gated behind high prices
Seems so odd to me, here in the UK some of the cheapest foods are things like carrots, potatoes, beans, oats. Things that people should be eating more of.
Don’t have enough time is the next excuse I hear. I just made lunch in seconds by combining the free milk at work with some roughly ground oats. Along with some dried fruit. Incredibly cheap meal and takes far less time than walking to the McDonalds across the road to order a burger. Don’t like milk? Use water, I only use milk because its free and cold. Cold lunch is nice at this time of year.
So you have a place to store that food? Yeah - when I worked retail we had a fridge and a cabinet in the breakroom, but there were 200 people working in that building all having to share a single fridge and cabinet, which means they effectively didn’t exist.
But there were a couple fast food places in the parking lot.
My lunch didn’t require a fridge to store it. Room temperature or even out in the sun would have been completely fine. Anywhere you feel like placing a tub really.
Dry ingredients, its never going to spoil until you add liquid which is done at the time I am going to eat it.
I’ve seen videos of people like Atomic Shrimp post videos of 1 dollar a day meal challenges (which he hasnt done in a good while, for various reasons) and stuff, and I was always absolutely gobsmacked by how cheap vegetables, flour, etc were in the UK, even when the price is converted to USD.
They’re paying pennies everywhere I pay dollars.
Tbh doing it for £1 now would be difficult to make videos on. Not because you can’t but because compared to when he started there is much less choice within the budget.
Only so many ways you can cook the same or similar ingredients.
Which is probably one of the many reasons why its been a good while since his last cooking challenge video.
he still does cooking videos, just not like " feed 2 people 3 meals for 1 dollar" videos.
Vegetables are not that “gated.” Processed foods that are “health washed” are gated, the stuff that’s in the health food sections or organic sections of stores. The problem is with fresh food is that it cannot always be consumed before spoiling, and waste is painful if you’re poor, processed foods are quick and easy when you’re working 2-3 jobs and are shelf stable for much longer periods, and on top of that people just don’t always learn how to cook fresh or do things like meal prep for a week. The time just isn’t there.
Yeah, the shopping access part is true. I frequently make 2-3 trips to the store for meals in a week thanks to close-by stores and the convenience of a vehicle. If you’re poor and maybe have to take public transportation (in the US) it makes groceries a whole other chore you don’t have time for.
It’s also incredibly important to remember that not eating anything at all will trigger your body to turn your proteins and muscles into fat in attempt to help you survive longer. Do not just not eat for a day or few. I have a friend who tried that. Didn’t work.
That is not all that accurate; “muscle mass” lost during a relatively short fast (1-2 days) is due to glycogen depletion - ie. you’re burning your sugar stores, and your body sheds 3-4mL of stored water for every gram of glycogen burned.
If you stop to think about it, it’s a bit nonsensical to claim that the body would burn additional calories (that it doesn’t have) to convert existing muscle into fat, rather than just burn existing fat stores as a fall-back source of energy.
Muscle breakdown only really begins when the body starts to experience a significant shortfall in required essential amino acids over a prolonged period of time, or significant physical stress.
And hormone issues can play a huge role in how your body processes and uses the fuel you give it. It’s not always as simple as calories in/out.
Yeah but just eating less processed foods, more vegetables and never drink your calories will get you a very long way even if you eat the same number of calories.
Also walk instead of drive.
Counting calories hasn’t with since the obesity epidemic started, and it won’t work now.
Also for thousands of years humans haven’t counted calories, and we’re not obese.
For the most part (excluding athletes, body builders, ect), only fat people calories.
Care to elaborate?
Counting calories works on a thermodynamics level, not a human level.
The real problem is hormones.
This is why drugs pike glp1 work. Is not burning more calories, it’s making people eat less. This makes people lose weight. But it’s not a cure, in fact it’s a bandaid that will fail the way it’s being used, and the data already supports this. People on glp gain the weight back after use, or even continue use after 2 years.
The problem is insulin. The more blood sugar spikes we get the more insulin we produce and the more weight we gain. This isn’t a much of a problem in younger humans, but after a while, other hormones like estrogen and testosterone get stored in the fat as well. This causes a ton of problems.
Is we attack the hormone issue, people lose weight. One of the easiest way is installing a blood sugar monitor and linking it to your phone. Cut out food that spikes insulin and maintaining a calorie intake to match bmr gets easy.
Is we continue to tell people to count calories, we will continue to fail like we have for the past 30 years of this epidemic because will power is a finite resource that gets burned up.
Another thing we find with the calories in calories out equation is reducing calories for a long period also reduces calories out. Say we reduce 200 calories from 2000 to 1800, in the long run our bmr goes to 1800 with the same macro ratios.
The math is absolute for body weight, but isn’t absolute is the humans ability to maintain the diet, hence why people fail.
The other think to consider for macro is body composition. Two people can eat 2500 calories day for long periods and have two completely different body types. One will be fat, and one will be ripped. This is due to insulin storing energy, and one might have higher ketone levels and gain more muscle leading to different bmr outputs.
For body builders or underweight people, they find it’s incredibly hard to gain weight, due to trying to power though high satiation levels, while some people gain fat when at a 1800 calorie diet, and they feel incredibly hungry so day. The difference is the insulin levels.
We can see this is humans with diabetes type 1, it’s near impossible for those people to gain weight no matter what they eat. Is because the human body can’t store energy without insulin. A couple of doctors are even say using insulin in type 2 diabetes are the worse thing we are doing, because it causes the problem to become worse. They are now putting blood sugar monitor on these patients and looking to limit insulin spikes and some have even reversed their diabetes completely. Patients that receive insulin as part of there condition almost never reverse their condition.
I don’t think weight loss is just a caloric deficit. Simple because bodies can adjust their metabolism and it’s not 100% in peoples control.
I could say discipline isn’t in these wealthy peoples minds.
That just means the person needs less calories to maintain weight. In order to lose weight, they still need to consume less calories than they burn.
That’s a component but metabolism can be dependent on caloric intake. Less you eat the less you’ll burn.
You’ll get the point if you fast for more than 36 hours. You’ll eventually be too lethargic to move. Also working out while undergoing ketosis isn’t quite recommended because you can burn muscle.
I read the heading and thought you were posting sugar-free Haribo gummy bears.
Mother of God I tried them when I went Keto, I was a reverse fountain for a day… Sugar alcohol does not agree w/ my system.
It doesn’t agree with anyone’s microbiome. They should not be sold.
Ok, I know this and that, but this? Can you please provide some context?
Go on Amazon and read some of the reviews for them. People describe the effects in very graphic detail.
Its something to do w/ your GI track can’t process them and it reeks havoc from there:
Your body can’t fully digest sugar alcohols, which can lead to some unpleasant GI symptoms when eaten in larger quantities — and they usually happen pretty soon after you eat them.

Remember Olestra? A small bag of chips and free anal leakage.
Different method of action, but yes. Turns out coating your entire GI tract in an impermeable film for a day or so is a bad idea.
Maintenance Phase did an episode on it a while ago, well worth a listen.
Thank you 😊
My pleasure, if I can save one person from the nightmare of what I went thru its all well worth it. Have a great day!
They’re also arguably worse for you than regular sugar also.
My one and only foray into that world. After my “incident” I looked it up and boy oh boy I didn’t know the other risks associated. Funny, nothing jumped out in the labeling to give you a heads up…
So shitty
💩
There are even some that come without the fucking plastic, I ear
I heard Taco Bell buys a lot of their lettuce.
Alternatively, just use your finger to flick the dangly thing in the back of your throat.
Hey now! That ruins your teeth and breath. Better to evacuate via the other exit!
How deep do i have to go to get to the dangly thing in the back of the butt??
According to my high quality anime based anatomy texts, it should be a straight shot from booty to tonsils!
It requires use of tentacles though.
I’m no proctologist, but I bet that, if you practice your squatting and get one of those long shoehorns for people who can’t/won’t bend down much, you can REALLY get far in there.
It’s probably not very good for your insides but I’m no gastroenterologist, so can’t say for sure 🤷🏻
What the hell kind of ologist are you then?
Procrastinologist
I don’t know, but I never want to find out.
But that ruins your ass’s breath!
Found Ace Ventura!
Doesn’t work on your mom.
