    Opium is here. It’s inevitable. It’s useless to try to fight it, we need to secure our own poppy farms so we can keep up. Otherwise we’ll be left behind by all the other nations and their opium.

      Literally what happened after the Taiping Rebellion. This is the historical reason for Afghanistan and The Golden Triangle region currently being the largest opium producers in the world.

      Read up on the PRC’s 1952 “Directive on Eradication of Drug Epidemic” and “mass line methodology” for how the “opium problem” was actually historically dealt with. Watching what the Taliban do over the next decade may also provide some insight.
