Hard truth that most people aren’t willing to come to terms with.
I like physical media, I really do. I still own probably 200 PS3 discs and about that much between PS2 and 4, but I’ve not bought a physical game in probably a full decade. It makes no sense with the current market and my last ~8 years of gane purchases have been entirely on Steam, obviously digital. The only things worth playing are a handful of genuinely great indie games and those would’ve never got a physical release anyway.
*Tl;dr: if you’re actually mad about this, come to PC and you’ll realize you don’t care that much about digital games, you just care because Sony is taking away the last thing that reminds you of the good ol’ days when they were good.
The issue is we rightfully trust Valve to always provide what we paid for. We don’t expect Sony to care that you bought and paid for something and provide the game 5 years from now.
It’s very cool that I still have my ps2 games from high school on disk that work fine. If I bought them from Valve, I’d still have them too. Right now PS3 games can still be downloaded from the store on a PS3, but I doubt that will be the case in a few more years.
