Probably in a similar boat; both my parents, and cousin had early 2010s LG French Door fridges (as they were just becoming popular).
When it came time for us to buy a new fridge, we followed along and purchased a 2018 model. While both of theirs are still functioning fine to this day - ours had the (now all too common) linear compressor fault in 2023.
We were fully reimbursed our original purchase price (yay, strong Aussie consumer protections!) and have since bought a Hitachi (Made in Japan) fridge. We’re quite happy with it, though it did cost extra out of pocket - and it’s way too early to be able to qualify for a recommendation.
Yep. It’s a shame, I’ve been very satisfied by their products but they’re just determined to be a shitty company.
Same here, I love my LG TV and recommend a lot of people to buy LG. But now? I recommend people to stay away and never connect the TV to the internet.
I try to seperate my recommendations by category, rather than an overall approval of a brand. Even then, I would probably add caveats on top.
e.g. LG OLED TV, sure - but never connect it to the internet directly. Use a set-top box like an Apple TV instead.
Or: LG monitor? Only if you have to, and never on a Windows machine.
Or: LG refrigerator? Never. Their linear compressor design is faulty, and is practically guaranteed to fail and be ‘uneconomical’ to repair.
I had a very good experience with the LG refrigerator at my mom’s house, so when I bought my home I went to the store for the exact model.
It was discontinued and created a new one that is the same but cheapened some things, now it is shittier.
