I’m on one of my alts because my main instance (.today) had a hiccup - which rarely happens. Maybe twice in the last year, if I recall correctly.

I’ve tried five different instances. Lemmy.today doesn’t defederate from anyone so you can see the whole lemmyverse and curate your experience from there, instead of having admins decide what you should and shouldn’t see. The rules are standard but lax, bigots and abusers still get banned, but it’s largely up to the mods to watch over their communities.

Alternatively, if you like a healthy, pre-curated experience at the other end of the spectrum, you could try Beehaw. They’re more focused on creating an engaging, well-moderated, welcoming community.
