    I don’t think the charts above are accurate. While recall charts I found online are oddly inconsistent, several seem to source their data from PIRG, so here’s their data (from here):

    To extend the data, per this article the number for 2025 was 320 (FDA 253, USDA 67, per this report).

    While the PIRG reports note that recalls without press releases are not included in the figures, assuming the fraction of companies that do publish press releases is consistent, there doesn’t seem to be a substantial increase in product recalls.

    Discrepancies between this PIRG chart and higher figures such as the chart in this report appear to depend on whether or not the author opts to include dietary supplements.

    Also of note is that a recall typically includes multiple products, contributing to the substantially higher numbers found in the following chart (which also includes cosmetics, from here):
