If a man rapes a woman, people say that he must marry the woman, because “her honour is ruined” or something, and nobody else will accept her as a wife.
I’m pretty sure this still happens in rural areas, where panchayat is the judge and jury.
I’ve seen interviews of rapists justifying their actions in jail by saying they’ll marry her, the country is indeed 60% rural and unfortunately very backwards.
