Hi everyone,

I have a HP 15-fd0xxx laptop that I no longer need and I’d like to give it to someone who will put it to good use.

The laptop is in good working condition and will be given away at no cost.

If you’re interested, leave a comment explaining how you’d use it. After a few days, I’ll randomly select one person and contact them via DM.

I’ll cover reasonable shipping costs, depending on the destination.

Thanks, and good luck!

If it is malicious, let’s hope it’s at least in the BIOS/UEFI. Would be a shame to go through all the effort and have it go to waste when the Windows partition is wiped before the laptop is even turned on.

Yeah, if you’re trying to honeypot someone with an OS-level rootkit, Lemmy would be a pretty silly place to do so. After all, there’s like a 99% chance that whoever gets it will be installing their preferred version of Linux. Hell, I’d even go as far as flashing the BIOS, because that’s an easy step that only takes an extra 10-20 minutes.

You’re assuming it would immediately try to do something. A decent honeypot would take time to quietly gather usage data, instead of immediately phoning home.
