    groveling apology from the organization that has weathered the Soviet Union, Putin’s Russia, and the Bush administration’s defense of Guantánamo Bay—but could not weather J.K. Rowling

    That’s not really a fair comparison.

    Amnesty obviously wouldn’t back down from groups that have literally committed mass torture and mass murder.

    Rowling is bad, but Amnesty can’t as easily provide concrete evidence that she’a directly murdered or tortured people.

    Free speech is tricky, legally. It’s much less tricky to navigate the law when it’s about murder and torture.
