    They are both ugly. The only thing worth preserving is the stone wall and the beams. The wood paneling on the walls is most likely just veneer. I’m not really a fan of lacquered wood paneled walls unless they have some eye catching feature. The smoothness makes them look like a floor.

        I’d personally keep a carpet but go with an olive rather than the blue-green that it is in the left pic

            I do agree with you that carpet is awful, but that mustard yellow or olive green carpet combined with the conversation pit just hit me right in the nostalgia.

            I would say go with a wood floor (not the landlord-chic-nightmare in the picture) but with the wood panel walls it’d be a bit much on the wood.

              I have memories of some kind of hard orange carpet with a strange texture that consisted of regularly spaced knobs of material. It was impossible to get clean with my Mom’s weird stick vacuum and I played on the ground a lot and saw all the debris left between the knobs.
