There are still 720p displays being marketed as “HD”.
720P is HD.
1080P is FHD and 2160P (4k) is UHD.
What’s 1440p in this naming scheme?
So as mentioned 1440p is QHD (quad HD, doubled in both directions)
Wide with a 2560x1440? Thats WQHD.
A little q, qHD is 960x540. Which really should be qFHD, since its a quarter of FHD, but thats a different matter.

Netflix still sells 720p to you as HD
720 is HD
It wasn’t even much higher than the analog resolution in countries with a 50 Hz electric system. Those were a TV system that ran 625 lines (576 with image). It was wider and ran with twice as many frames, though. The resolution was more of an improvement in countries with a 60 Hz electric system, their TV ran at 525 lines (486 with image), along with the same benefits of a wider picture and doubled frame rate.
I remember in the early days of flat panels and HDTVs, there were some sold as “enhanced definition” TVs that weren’t actually HD at all. They were the same number of lines as standard definition, just wide. A lot of times people weren’t even watching widescreen content on them, just normal content that was stretched wide. That meant if you were looking at something that was supposed to be a circle, it would be stretched into an oval. I never understood why that didn’t bother more people.
