You’re honestly terrible human if you think that taking any chance to escape abuse in such a way that protects someone from future harm, while having no knowledge of me or my service.
Look, as an abused kid, you know that the number one thing you want is to not continue the cycle of abuse, right? Sadly, joining the US military is one way of continuing the cycle of abuse. Think about all those kids with war injuries.
And yes, definitely the system is an abuser here too, of you and all those colleagues you saw mutilated and pissed away, but you became part of it.
Sure, of course now I know this. As an 18 year old growing up in the represseive south where talk anout mental health would bring about harassment and more abuse? Ha. Good luck.
The point is that we have to realize that we all come from these fucked places. We’re all put in these paths because the system is shit. So sure, there are plenty of assholes like the op meme, but there are those of us raises hand that have come from trauma, lived through trauma, and continue to see trauma even without the added help of the military to juice the cPTSD.
At a certain point we should hold someone accountable for their actions, but an 18 year old who just wanted to escape? Let them lie man, not everyone is a murderous shitstain on the carpet.
I’m truly sorry that you were being abused, but joining the military was not a legitimate way to escape that.
Like you could have also escaped it by becoming a serial killer and getting yourself thrown in prison, and I wouldn’t support that either, although you would probably have done less damage as a lone serial killer than as part of the largest serial killing operation in the history of the world

I’m glad you’re out of it.

As long as they’re doing their best, it doesn’t matter if they’re imperfect, as we all are.
You are right.
