yup started getting this forced signup/login this morning without using a VPN on my home network. old.reddit still works for now but you can’t look at anything on regular reddit anymore.
end of an era I guess.
holy… fuck… so it is real - they are going login only
I mainly get it when looking as at a thread on my phone, but when I go desktop mode I no longer get the login pop-up. In mobile mode, though, it is unavoidable.
Sounds like A/B rollout, just like on old.reddit.
Easy way to reduce chances of some movement forming, very common strategy for unpopular changes.
old.reddit does force a login when I am on VPN, interestingly.
This probably means it’s in an A/B testing period.
Yeah, that’s what I figured. I may have even got hit with it once off a VPN, while on mobile 5G, but I can’t say that for sure.
yeah for me it’s hit or miss with my vpn. sometimes it’ll force a login, sometimes it won’t.
