That’s the weird part. Clerks had a budget of $27,575 in 1994. I’m pretty sure any iPhone (30 years later) has better quality than the cameras back then. Where are all the cheap movies ?

On YouTube. Perhaps on a streaming platform. Neither of which was available in 94.

Studios struggle to release mid-range movies with A-list stars in cinemas now. Olivia Wilde had to fight to get The Invite into cinemas.

Clerks was done incredibly cheap even for its time because it wasn’t a studio project.

Backrooms had a budget around $10 million which is pretty dang cheap for Hollywood. Obsession was under a million. Both were quite successful in theaters.

Cheap as dirt movies are all over free streaming apps, which replaced the discount shelves at video stores.
