Killing coyotes just make the problem worse…

A pack is a set of parents, and pups.

While together , only the parents keep reproducing. Their daughters experience sympathy labor that’s supposed to be insanely realistic. But as long as they’re with their parent they’re not mating and not reproducing

If/when one of the parent die, the pack splits up and they all start their own packs.

So if you see a pack of 6 coyotes, that’s one breeding pair.

Kill either of the biggest, and now you have 2.5 breeding pairs, and the coyote population starts increasing even faster.

Evolutionarily speaking, it’s a very good system to prevent overpopulation.

When they face selective pressure, reproduction increases. When nothing is killing them, their population can (somewhat) manage itself.

So the only way we can deal with coyote population, is catch and release spay and neuter.

Anything else just makes more coyotes. If killing coyotes meant less coyotes, they’d be extinct by now. It has the opposite effect, which is why in 2026 we still have a coyote problem
