Full title: Companies are now using your credit history, past-due accounts, browsing data, and social media accounts to figure out the absolute lowest salary you’ll accept. Algorithmic wage suppression is being weaponized against workers to destroy wages.

I am hiring at a large national retailer
We aren’t doing this. Even if we were, most smart candidates are not going to accept a lowball and I don’t want to offer one.
If i paid you the same or barely more than your current salary, you would not change jobs. If I were able to force a shit salary down someone’s throat, they are going to keep looking because I forced a shit salary down their throats.
While I don’t doubt this is happening, it will only be effective if people accept it. If a company lowballs you, don’t take the fucking offer!
I need someone in my open roles. If I don’t hire them, I have to do that work. If the company sees me doing the work, they will think that it is OK and it is cheaper to have me do all the work and close the open position. Therefore, I am willing to pay someone a reasonable offer above the original.
Always ask for more. When we need roles filled, most of are good to give. Its not my money, what do I care? I’m certainly not going to rescind the offer because someone asked. Only useless bootlickers who think they will be rewarded by saving the company $10k will hold firm. They will also have a staff full of people that hate them and do shit work. Ask for more.
