In fact Isildur was such a big hero that the shattered remains of his sort were still revered in Elrond’s house and also by the humans and also numenorians. Plus he was also a king.
He, and literally every other human in Middle Earth, not to mention every elf, dwarf, and maia, and presumably every ork, uruk-hai, trent, balrog, troll, and loreless abomination as well.

But he was also too weak to destroy the ring when he had the chance, thus leaving the spirit of Sauron to remain and try to conquer Middle Earth.
