Bill C-3 allows citizenship for those who can prove they’re descended from a Canadian ancestor, even if that ancestor left the country several generations back. It was adopted after the courts ruled that limiting citizenship to the first generation born outside of Canada was too restrictive.
Funny, Italy recently went in the exact opposite direction.
It requires that the Canadian citizen has to live for at least three years in Canada to pass on citizenship, if they were not born in the country. So technically it can be multiple generations, but practically it is a lot less likely.

Italy requires two years btw.
Hmm interesting. My great grandparents were definately from Canada (and possibly even my grandparents) so it seems like I could apply for citizenship.
